Conflict minerals is an issue that landed with a thud on the desks at many precision machining companies a couple of years ago as a provision of the Dodd Frank financial reform bill. In this informational session, Miles Free will review what our shops can do to minimize their distractions created by this rule. Most shops are able to establish that they are not using conflict minerals, but some may actually produce products that contain these materials.
In this session we will learn:

  • What are the specific chemicals covered?
  • What materials fall under this rule?
  • If tungsten is one of the "3T's + G," why don't I have to report it when it is in all my carbide and half my tool coatings?
  • What does "necessary to production" mean under Dodd-Frank? Hint it's not what you might think!
  • Are our companies covered by this rule? If not why do we have to fill out these forms?
  • How to fill out the EICC-GESI template.

Learn from Miles how to minimize the aggravation that this issue can have on your shop. (This session will help the majority of attending shops identify that this is not an issue for them, merely a reporting requirement. If your shop produces and sells products that are composed of one of the 3T's +G, we will look at some strategies to smooth your compliance efforts.)

You’ll also have an opportunity to hear and view the latest in machining technology from our meeting host, Microlution, Inc. Microlution is a pioneer in the development of integrated micro manufacturing solutions for precision parts. Traditional, single purpose CNC machines are too slow and too expensive to create the micro parts required for today’s advanced automotive, consumer, medical and aerospace products. Microlution develops integrated solutions for manufacturing finished parts in seconds. Built around core ultra precise, high speed, multi-axis platforms, Microlution combines precision part loading, characterization, machining and validation from a single system.
