USTR: No Tariffs on Copper Based Alloys

Monday February 17, 2020

Members, PMPA is pleased to inform you that last Friday, February 14, 2020, the USTR released its updated list of European Union goods subject to a tariff as part of the ongoing Boeing-Airbus 301 Aviation Dispute and did NOT include copper based alloys as they had considered. USTR was looking into whether to impose tariffs of up to 100% on bars, rods, and other forms of copper based alloys listed below.

Several of our member shops (yours may be one) use these products due to quality requirements and limited domestic supplies.

Had this 100% tariff been approved, Our shops would have had to pay double for the copper based alloy bar stock needed to make their critical high tech components. This would have made us uncompetitive in the global marketplace.

PMPA is remaining focused on this case, as this item can be reexamined in April.

“Effective associating” by our Government Affairs team has effectively communicated  our position on this important issue affecting our member’s competitiveness.

We have attached the formal notice from USTR and our Formal Comments submitted last month. Thank you for your support of PMPA and our work in Washington D.C.

Together, we can make a difference.
