OVERVIEW - Who Should Attend:
Six classes with over 8 hours of hands-on training targeted for precision machining shop floor personnel.

SESSIONS:
1) Metal Cutting Technology Class: The focus of this classroom session will be on tool wear/insert wear with additional review of fundamental metal-cutting technology.
2) Hands-on Floor Demonstration: The group will make the transition from the classroom to the shop floor where they will see hands on chip turning and a tool milling demo.
3) Metallurgy for Machinists This class will give machinists a better understanding of materials and their impacts on our processes. The class will give a real-world vocabulary of what we need to effectively communicate between shop, estimating, purchasing personnel, and the customer.
4) How To Read Certs: Test reports and certifications vary by supplier, but all share common elements. This session will provide the means to understand the terminology on material certifications. The session will walk you through the Tips and Tricks of quickly reading a certification so you can better understand the challenges before a tool touches the material.
5) Print Discussion: Attendees will be given a print to start the session. The objective of the session will be to identify and discuss the challenges of the part and the many ways to consider those challenges from an engineering, operator, and quality standpoint. The focus will not be on how quickly the part can be produced, but rather on the ‘risk assessment’ that must be taken into account for successful production.
6) Technical Problem Solving / Tools Used & Lessons Learned: What is an hour of lost machine time worth? How about a day, a week, or a couple of weeks? This class will review PMPA ‘tools you can use’ to maximize uptime. Machining questions that have been asked in the past will be reviewed to show the power of having a list-serve and to share the lessons learned from these unique machining issues.
