New Paycheck Protection Loan Rules Provide Some Answers
Questions about employee bonuses, payments made to owner employees and the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) authority
to audit Paycheck Protection Program loans (PPP) were answered just before the long Memorial Day weekend. Late on Friday evening,
May 22, exactly one week after the SBA released its much anticipated PPP Forgiveness Application, the SBA and the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued two interim final rules (IFR) addressing some of the lingering issues with respect to PPP loan forgiveness.
Miles Free & Carli Kistler-Miller discuss the need to know information regarding the Paycheck Protection Plan that so many of our member shops are dealing with. This podcast was recorded on May 21, 2020 so please refer to our PMPA PPP Loan page for all updated information.
The initial economic impact of the COVID-19 Crisis has been especially painful for businesses and employees due to government ordered shutdowns, with unemployment rising to almost 25% of the workforce. As the US consumer goes, so goes the economy. Retail sales have been flat, light vehicle sales (our industry’s largest market) declined over 25%, signaling likely slowdowns in our shops in the months ahead.
It is not all bad news – this broad unexpected economic slowdown is expected to hasten an increase in GDP later this year (see the attached report for details) and full-fledged recovery in the latter half of 2021. This is chess, not checkers. Savvy management is using this time wisely to prepare for the long term opportunities. Market specific indexes in recession, slowing growth and accelerating growth (yes, there are some!) are identified in this latest economic report from ITR Economics.
The Institute for Trend Research (ITR) quarterly reports focus on major areas of economic growth and decline in key market segments for the Precision Machined Products Industry. They are provided to PMPA members as part of the association’s overall business intelligence program and are used as a management tool to help PMPA members plan for what lies ahead and which markets they should focus on in a complex manufacturing environment.
Lib Pietrantoni of CJWinter will provide both a design overview and a practical troubleshooting review with a ‘how to make it work’ approach. The design discussion will include how material selection and properties, blank design, tooling, feeds & speeds, and gaging all impact successful fabrication of rolled threads. The troubleshooting review will begin with defining common problems, share causes, and walk you through the process of finding solutions.
Join us for our first Technical Tuesday webinar as Peterson Tool Company’s Mark Charleton will discuss and review CAM design. Mark will also compare HSS tool cycles to carbide tool cycles and compare them again with the design of special double rise cams for both OD tools and ID tools. Mark has applied this process for customer jobs in the past with great success and wants to share this knowledge with PMPA members. This presentation also will touch on thinking outside the box on custom CAM layouts.
